I love using Pinterest for cute fall decor ideas and inspiration! Here are 15 ideas that I am planning to implement this year!
Decorating for fall is one of my all time favorite things to do. Once summer is winding down, I am ready to swap out my basic decor for some festive fall decor.
However, I tend to still stick to neutral tones and I tend to stay away from overly tacky or super themed decor. I like to implement pops of seasonal items while still keeping with my overall style.
There are so many different ways you can decorate for fall. The important thing is that you decorate in a way that allows you to enjoy it for the few months your seasonal decor is out.
I'm going to cover fifteen cute fall decor ideas that I plan to use as inspiration for my fall decor this year. I know it seems really early to be thinking about fall with summer just starting, but retail stores are always a few months ahead of the season inventory wise.
And unfortunately, new items will start to sell out the longer you wait! It always helps to have your overall decor idea in the back of your mind going into the end of July and August. It's also nice to pick things up early so that when you're actually ready to decorate, you have the majority of the items you need.
Some of the stores I tend to purchase my fall decor at are Target, Hobby Lobby, Christmas Tree Shop, Amazon, Home Goods, Dollar Store & Walmart. These stores tend to have a lot of options for neutral and minimalist style decor.

Fall Decorating Ideas for Living Room
When it comes to decorating your living room for fall, there are a few places I suggest focusing on. One of my top suggestions is taking an area that is already decorated (like your coffee table or mantle) and swapping out a few things with fall decor.
For example, if you already have a coffee table tray with a vase on it and it currently has spring/summer flowers, try swapping out the contents for some fall faux inserts like in the image below.
The places I would look to decorate are your coffee table, mantle, end tables or possibly a bookshelf. Another great way to tie everything together are throw pillows and blankets.
I also love when people stick to a theme. For example, if pumpkins is your thing, then find a bunch of real or fake pumpkins that fit your color scheme and sprinkle them around your house. If scarecrows are more your vibe, then follow the same concept with scarecrows.
One of the biggest mistakes people make is having too many different kinds of decor that make it a lot to take it when looking at your home. When it comes to seasonal decor, less is more!
When I previously mentioned throw pillows and blankets, I personally tend to stay away from anything with words. However, I love incorporating fall colors. This helps with making sure you aren't making your space too busy. These items help tie everything in the room together and help make it a relaxing space.
Pumpkin Fall Decor
For my home, my overall theme is pumpkins. Now don't get me wrong, this doesn't mean that I won't add smaller items that vary. However, I pick a main theme and then tend to decorate around that theme.
There are so many different ways to go about your main theme. Some people love to collect items over the years and slowly add to their collection (like me). This way you're not looking to purchase everything all at once.
Below is a great example of how you can take an area that is already decorated and implement some fall decor into the space. This is what a lot of my decor looks like because I stick with the neutral colors that I can tie into my current decor.
Trays are a great way to designate a space in your home that you are going to decorate. This way you can avoid over doing it.
If there is too much going on, it can take away from your decor. By keeping it simple, it is easier for the eye to focus on the items you have put out.
I absolutely love the idea of clustering a few pumpkins of different sizes next to a piece of decor you already have like a basket of blankets or a vase on my mantel.
This is also an example of what I mean by sticking to neutral colors. I love white pumpkins, tan pumpkins, etc. This way I don't have to worry about things clashing.
Fall Decorating Ideas for Outside
Although I love decorating inside, decorating your front door and steps is another great way to make your home feel as festive as possible. This is where I love to incorporate real corn stalks, real pumpkins, mums, etc. I also absolutely love a beautiful fall wreath.
This is a great time to take a trip to your local pumpkin patch or nursery that sells fall flowers and plants. A lot of times they will have beautiful premade wreaths that you can purchase.
There are few things I love more than driving through my neighborhood and seeing how every decorates their front door and steps! It really gets me in the fall mood.
Another great thing to incorporate is a cute door mat. I personally love the layered look. You can use a thinner and larger patterned door mat and then put a festive/seasonal one over top.
The rope knot door mats are great for outdoors because they are sturdy. The color of them also usually ties in really well with most fall decor.
Additionally, if signs are your thing, the long vertical wooden signs really give your front porch a nice touch! You can use this as a way to incorporate some color or stick to a neutral wood color.
Below are some of my favorite fall decor finds from Amazon! Searching neutral fall decor is a great way to get some pieces you can add to your current decor.
Just like any other home decor theme, there are so many different directions you can take it in. However, I highly suggest sticking to a less is more approach. I would say to stick to few areas in our home that you can decorate like your living room, front porch and kitchen/dining room.
That way your space does not feel too busy and people can actually appreciate your decor. If you are in a new apartment or home, remember that you don't have to purchase everything all at once. It's nice to get new items every year so you can slowly build your collection.
And lastly, remember that good decor tends to sell out quick! Keep your eyes peeled for items towards the end of the summer and snag it when you can. If you think you'll be able to come back for, it will most likely be gone!
